GONZALO PITA, ARGENTINE ARTIST. BROOKLYN BASED.

i certainly can try to describe my inspiration for a lot of my landscape impasto pieces which have transcended from my Bauhaus inspired collage, photography and other works. I guess through my travels in general, whether it be Jujuy’s desert with powdery seven color mountains in Argentina, or the Maltese craggy lava cliffside farms with natural herbal aromas blowing downwind…  i’ve always admired not only the people and cultures with which brings a plethora of perceptions, but the bucolic landscapes in itself truly capture my imagination.  So when my wife, Kerry & i, drive to our cabin in the Adirondacks, we always choose to take a slightly longer backroad route for a glimpse of an intimate rolling Mohawk Valley. It’s in constant color transformation and movement in light within the seasons …sometimes we even just stop the car on this barren road and take it all in.. So when i start painting in my impasto technique, i’m not looking at a particular photo, per se, nor with a direction necessarily, but i must be drawing on a compilation of all my experiences which seem to flow as i’m staining the canvas.  Sometimes it comes easily for me, and there’s other days which I’m completely stuck..so i don’t force it, because i really want to always enjoy this process (as cliche as that sounds.)

For me, it’s just as rewarding as when i finally encounter someone who connects with it and takes their own interpretation of what it means to them.
